Charting a New Course in the Middle East

Charting a New Course in the Middle East

The rapidly changing events in the Middle East are forcing nations and businesses around the world to react fast and be prepared for a new geopolitical future. Clearly, the old paradigm of sanctions, finger-wagging, military intervention or UN peacekeepers becoming political participants, is no longer valid. What then, should the global community do and how should nations prepare for this emerging world in turmoil?

Ambassador Frank G. Wisner II, a veteran US diplomat, discussed his future outlook for the Middle East with Gateway House members. Ambassador Wisner has completed four ambassadorships in Egypt, The Philippines, Zambia & India.  Most recently, he served as U.S. President Obama’s special representative to Egypt during the protests earlier this year and meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to urge him to step down from his thirty year reign.

At the Gateway House meeting, Mr. Wisner explained the choices facing current Arab regimes, the political and economic ramifications of the current turmoil, and the role the Indian Government and Indian business can play in the transformed Middle East.
