Gateway House Global Minds Essay Competition 2011

 

Ashoka or Arthashastra: which one can better shape India’s foreign policy and future? 

Gateway House sponsored its second Global Minds Essay Contest, which was open to any student in India aged 15-19 years. A panel comprising Navdeep Suri (Joint Secretary and Head of the Public Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs), Sunil Khilnani (Professor and Director of the South Asia Studies Program, School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University), Rajni Bakshi (Gandhi Peace Fellow, Gateway House), and Vidya Shah (EdelGive Foundation) determined the winners.

The first place winner receives a cash prize of Rs. 5,000. The second place winner receives a cash prize of Rs. 2,500. The third place winner receives a cash prize of Rs. 1,500. All three finalists will receive a certificate.

The first essay contest, “Who can save the Sunderbans?” was held in 2010; the winner was Damini Roy from Mayo College Girls School. To read Damini’s essay, click here.

Judges were Bittu Sahgal (Environmentalist & Editor, Sanctuary), Vijay Crishna (Director, Godrej Group), Ambassador Neelam Deo (former Ambassador of India; Director at Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations) and Smita Parekh (Director, Mahindra United World College of India) determined the winners.
