The 2nd ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-plus) will be held in Brunei, on August 29. The meeting will be attended by top defence officials from the 10 ASEAN member countries and its eight regional dialogue partners – Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the United States.
The Indian delegation will be led by the Minister of State for Defence, Jitendra Singh.
During the meeting, the member countries are expected to discuss a range of security issues as well as measures to promote cooperation among the defence establishments. Security issues in the Asia-Pacific region, including maritime security, are expected to be on the agenda for discussions. A joint declaration is also expected to be issued following the conclusion of the meeting.
The 2nd ADMM Plus meeting will be held three years after the inaugural meeting was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, in October 2010. At the inaugural meeting, the Defence Ministers had agreed on five areas of practical cooperation – maritime security, counter-terrorism, disaster management, peacekeeping operations and military medicine – between the member countries.
