The first meeting of the CII Committee on International Trade Policy and Exports 2015-2016 was held in New Delhi on August 6 2015.
Akshay Mathur, head of research, and geoeconomics fellow, Gateway House, attended the meeting. He recently accepted the offer to become a member of the Committee
The meeting began with an introductory remark by the Chair, Mr Gopal Pillai, former Home and Commerce Secretary, Government of India. This was followed by a discussion regarding India’s export performance and FTAs, this included presentations on India’s current export performance and India’s FTAs Strategy by Mr. O.P. Hisaria and Dr. Ajit Ranade respectively. The committee also discussed the State of the WTO Doha Negociations and the expectations from the upcoming WTO Nairobi Ministerial.
Among the notable attendees of this event were Mr. Pravir Kumar, Directorate General of Foreign Trade and, Mr. Shishir Priyadarshi, Director, WTO.
