On October 30, Gateway House in collaboration India International Centre, New Delhi, hosted Ambassador Juan Alfredo Pinto Saavedra, Colombian Ambassador to India and Dr. Soraya Caro, Director, Centre for Research on India and South Asia, Universidad Externado de Colombia in conversation with Ambassador R. Viswanathan, Distinguished Fellow, Latin American Studies, Gateway House to discuss ‘Colombian perspectives of the India-Latin America relationship.’ This is the 4th of the Economic and Business Series meetings hosted by Gateway House.
Ambassador Juan Alfredo Pinto Saavedra is the Colombian Ambassador to India. He has served in the Colombian government as Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade & Tourism, Minister of Economic Development and Member of Congress in Colombia. He is also an established professor and author, and has taught in several universities including University of Gran Colombia, Universidad Externado de Colombia, Universidad de los Andes, the School of Business Administration, and the Foundation for Agricultural Development in Colombia, and Universidad Central del Este in the Dominican Republic and Technological Institute of Monterrey in Mexico.
Dr. Soraya Caro is Director, Center for Research on India and South Asia, Universidad Externado de Colombia. She has formerly held the position of Vice President of ACOPI (the Colombian Association of Small and Medium Businesses), and works regularly as an international consultant.
Ambassador R. Viswanathan is Distinguished Fellow, Latin American Studies, Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations. “Malgudi to Macondo the journey of an innocent Indian through the seductive Latin America” is the title of his book published in August 2012. His earlier book “Business with Latin America” was published by Eximbank of India in February 2005. He has served as Ambassador of India to Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Venezuela as well as Consul General in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
