G20 Summit

G20 Summit

The seventh Group of 20 (G20) Summit of the world’s twenty major economies will take place in Los Cabos, Mexico on June 18-19, 2012. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has participated in all the previous G20 summits will be representing India.

This year Mexico has established the following priorities for the 2012 G20 Summit:

1. Economic stabilization and structural reforms as foundations for growth and employment.

2. Strengthening the financial system and fostering financial inclusion to promote economic growth.

3. Improving the international financial architecture in an interconnected world.

4. Enhancing food security and addressing commodity price volatility.

5. Promoting sustainable development, green growth and the fight against climate change.

Mexico, to make the dialogue more inclusive, organized the Think20, a summit of think tanks form various countries, earlier this year. The four key topics discussed at this summit were economics, green growth, food security and commodity-price volatility, and the role that think tanks can play in making the G20 more effective.

The G20 is a forum which brings together the world’s major advanced and emerging economies for cooperation on important aspects of the international economic and financial agenda. It comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United States, and the European Union. These countries together represent around 90% of global GDP, 80% of global trade and two-thirds of the world’s population.
