India’s quest for energy is greater than ever as it aims to re-charge its economy. The world’s energy landscape is witnessing significant geopolitical shifts – the discovery of shale in the U.S. and the worsening political environment in West Asia along with Western sanctions against Iran and Russia, India’s primary energy sources. In this transforming geopolitical scenario, India needs to diversify its energy sources. Canada, with its growing energy marketplace and lower prices; Mexico, with its large reserves of crude oil; and the United States where Indian companies are already heavily invested in the energy sector, could be new and stable partners for India in this context.
On June 20, Gateway House hosted Stewart Beck, Canadian High Commissioner to India, Camille Richardson, Principal Commercial Officer, U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service and Amay Hattangadi, Executive Director, Portfolio Manager, Morgan Stanley to discuss India’s energy options and the role that North American governments and companies can play as future energy partners.
