External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will visit the United States on 21 June to commemorate the first International Yoga Day.
Swaraj will will visit the UN Headquarters in New York to preside over the two-hour long celebration, following which she is expected to go the Times Square to represent India as the pioneer of the International Yoga Day.
She will be joined by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, and President of theUN General Assembly, Sam Kutesa. She will also be accompanied by Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
On 11 December, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. The draft resolution received broad support by 175 countries, including the U.S., Canada and China.
