When analyzing the Arab uprisings and the future of the countries in the region, we must remember that democratic polity does not form overnight. Over the past year, there has been a drastic change in the political scenario in Syria, which is now engulfed with violent sectarian conflict. What implications will the ongoing conflict in Syria have in the Gulf and subsequently for India’s interests in the Gulf?

Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations hosted an interactive discussion with Ambassador Rajendra Abhyankar, former Indian Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg. Gateway House’s Ambassador Neelam Deo moderated the discussion on Syria, West Asia and North Africa.

The discussion focused on the current conflict in Syria, the media’s portrayal of the situation and the implications of the conflict for India and the Gulf nations.
