U.S.-India relations: Tackling India differently

U.S.-India relations: Tackling India differently

India-U.S. relations have become increasingly broad-based, covering cooperation in areas such as trade and economics, defence and security, education, science and technology, civil nuclear energy, space technology and many more. After holding three rounds of strategic dialogues, India-U.S. ties have now entered a phase of maturity where there is no longer a need for dramatic breakthroughs that was seen earlier.

Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations hosted an interactive discussion with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides. Gateway House’s Ambassador Neelam Deo moderated the discussion on ‘U.S.-India relations: Tackling India differently.’

Nides was appointed by U.S. President Barack Obama as Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Department. He also serves as principal adviser to the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, on over-all supervision and direction of resource allocation and management activities of the Department. Prior to joining the administration, Nides was the Chief Operating Officer of Morgan Stanley, a leading global financial services firm from 2005 to 2010. He also served on the Boards of New York Cares, the Urban Alliance Foundation, the Council on Foreign Relations and other organizations.
