On June 24, Gateway House hosted John Garnaut, the Asia Pacific editor for the Sydney Morning Herald. The session looked at the ascendancy of a leader: How Xi Jinping united the factions of Chinese communism and his push to deepen and broaden Chinese sovereignty.
John Garnaut is also the Asia-Pacific editor for The Age in the Fairfax Media stable, after previously serving as China correspondent from July 2007 to June 2013. He is a regular contributor to Foreign Policy magazine and writes occasionally for other publications including Prospect, The International Tribune and Caijing magazine. He is author of the short Penguin book, The Rise and Fall of the House of Bo. He is currently in Melbourne where he is working on a sequel about the rise of China’s princeling rulers.
