Learning from Taiwan to Counter China’s Disinformation

Chinese state media and other outlets are increasingly using disinformation to undermine Taiwan's political stability, sway public opinion, and erode national unity. The government in Taipei mitigates this threat by employing a range of high- and low-tech solutions. Other countries will benefit by using the Taiwan model to fortify their democratic institutions and enhance their readiness against an advanced arsenal of disinformation tools.

New Delhi’s quest for AI collaboration

The inaugural summit of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), hosted by India earlier this month, drew special attention given the dramatic strides made in the field in the past year. As it prepares to chair the GPAI in 2024, India can draw on its large workforce, the university system and the technology stack to steer conversations on AI regulation, innovation and deployment towards a balanced and equitable path.

Natural intelligence is vital for AI ethics

On 25-26 May 2021, United Nations India held a Virtual Conference on Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI): Exploring pluri-perspectives in conjunction with OP Jindal University. Chaitanya Giri, Fellow, Space and Ocean Studies Programme, spoke on 'Operationalising AI ethics from a Pluri-Philosophical Lens', where he made the case for Sanskrit as an applicable language for instilling ethics in AI. He also emphasized the need for greater scientific inquiry in natural intelligence to avoid skewed technological progress with AI.
