The T20 Summit held in Beijing last week provided an opportunity for scholars, think tank representatives, and government officials to engage in meaningful discussion of global economic governance in preparation for the G20 summit in September. The summit's organisers and participants are now taking greater steps to produce more tangible and relevant policy options for the consideration of states worldwide, in the context of fostering global good.

India must be fully engaged in the emerging G20-led international policy agenda being developed to deal with global structural weaknesses and raise public investment where fiscal space is available. India and other emerging markets offer higher investment returns---partly because of their demographics---and their deepening international integration makes them attractive.

A T20 workshop in Lima, Peru, provided the opportunity to for a deeper insight into the the Latin American economic situation. While the workshop focused on finding innovative solutions to sustain high growth in middle-income countries. There is a need for India and similar countries, to become sensitized to each others problems on development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives like the Make in India campaign, Digital India, Skill India, Smart Cities, et al, are all designed to attract much needed foreign capital into the country. However, a lot of global investors are still sitting on the fence. PM Modi, thus, must use the G20 Summit to assure investors and countries that India is open for business.

At India’s first T20 consultation, hosted by Gateway House in Mumbai on October 19, the four working sessions were titled: ‘G20 and new inclusive business models’; ‘Trade, investment, and development’; ‘Financing sustainable infrastructure’; and ‘Technology, services, and skills’. We present an overview of these discussions, arranged in three categories for each session: Why is the issue important for the G20? What are India's concerns on the subject? What were the key issues discussed at this meeting?
